How to calculate the length of thread on the shuttle? This is a question that arises when you start tatting.
There are methods, of course, but my rationalist mind needs scientific calculations. So I developed a spreadsheet that you can download below.
Note: I entered parameters according to my personal measurements for 50 double stitches. You can change them.
In addition, I made an English translation. File parameters are provided for centimeters, but it can be changed for inches.
Example of use to calculate the length of thread on the shuttle:
Imagine this pattern (drawn randomly for the example):
There is 2 big rings: ring 1.
On the rings 1, I count 8 + 2 + 2 + 8 = 20 double stitches
The little rings (ring 2) count 8 + 8 = 16 DS
There is also 4 chains with 4 double stitches.
I fill out my spreadsheet as follows:
So I need 50.24 cm on my shuttle … well it’s an estimate: it does not take into account everything (picots, beads etc.). Take an extra margin!
coucou Lilas Lace,
merci beaucoup pour cet ingénieux excel format pour le calcule du fil..
je l’ai installé sur mon laptop.. trop top
merci mille fois
