pulled loop join

Pulled loop join according to a Nina Libin pattern

And now, just looking for the link to Nina Libin’s books, I rediscover a technique that I had totally forgotten: the pulled loop join.

The pulled loop join is the ancestor of the split ring. I have always neglected this technique, preferring cracked rings. And yet the rendering and finishing pearls inserted in the middle of the rings is very beautiful.

How to do?

The pulled loop join is done with a single shuttle. After closing the first ring, a bead threaded on the shuttle is placed in the center of the rings by making a join with the top of the ring. That simple!

Attention however: for a nice finish, Nina Libin advises after the second ring to redo a connection between the first and the second (I tested and I approve 100%).

You can find  Nina Libin’s pattern here.

A variant caught my attention: Nina Libin offers a variant with seed beads. I like this pattern that makes the rings a bit “square”. It is not much more difficult, it is enough to envisage on the shuttle to interpose 8 seed beads with pearls.

To make these two patterns, I use Madeira FS 10 metallic polyester thread and freshwater pearls.
